Education in Castle Cary and neighbouring villages.

Before the growth of elementary schools, especially the establishment of National and British schools, in the 19th century, education was mainly through private schools of varying quality or through the church. By the 19th century most villages had a school and towns had many catering for both rich and poor. Several Victorian schools still house thriving classes of children others have become private houses but all are a legacy of the 19th-century desire for education.
