Castle Cary Board School building

A new single-storeyed and gabled school for 220 children south of the existing National School building was planned in 1873 and completed in 1876 to designs by Henry Hall. It was taken over by a school board in 1889 following financial difficulties and became a Board School. In 1903 there were 13 teachers and 363 children on the books accommodated in five classrooms subdivided by partitions. Prefabricated and mobile classrooms have been used on the site since 1968. The premises were enlarged and modernised c.1996.
