Entrance to stalactite cave, Banwell

The Banwell stalactite cave was discovered in 1757 by miners. Unfortunately a landslip closed the access and it was in trying to reopen a passage to the cave in 1824 that the bone cave was found. In 1825 this entrance was made but although 19th-century visitors had no qualms about going in modern health and safety needs dictate that caving equipment is required to enter the cave.
