Castle Cary market before 1853

Castle Cary seems to have had a market in the 13th century and in 1258 paid 40s. for transgressions concerning the assizes and measures. It had a history of revivals and attempts to improve its fortunes but other neighbouring markets like Wincanton were more successful.
