Barrington Court the great hall

The great hall was wrecked in the 19th century and used for storage. Even windows were taken out. Col Lyle and his architect Edward Forbes restored it in the 1920s with imported linenfold panelling and Italian ceilings beams. Both are mxture of genuine and modern copies made to fill the space. This view is from the so-called minstrel's gallery, possibly created by Forbes from a passage. Other rooms were also furnished with a mixture of Col Lyle's antique woodwork collection and skilful modern replicas. Sadly the provenace of the old woodwork is unknown or doubtful.
