Barrington Court plaster overmantel

This overmantel is a depiction of the judgment of Solomon of c 1600. It was clearly inserted into the house after it was built but it is unknown when or by whom. It does not fit the fireplace and its uneven back and pillar formation may indicate that it was originally made for a house with uneven walls and ceilings. It is a curious choice of subject for a bedchamber was it intended for a room used to hold manorial courts?
