High Street (east): No. 97

This 2½-storey house is of 17th-century origin, with early 18th-century window openings standing proud of the rendered façade. The sashes and shopfront are 19th-century additions, made probably by the jeweller and clock- and watchmaker John B. Walter, who lived here from the 1860s to 1890s. A descendant was still a watchmaker here in 1920, followed by Woodward's shoe shop (1930s–60s) and Horseshoe Antiques.
