St Michael & All Angels

The parish church of Bishopwearmouth, St Michael's was designated a Minster Church in 1998. Descriptions and illustrations of the church, dating from the 18th century, suggest that it was probably begun in the 12th century and substantially re-built in the later 13th century although subsequent renovations, undertaken in the 19th and 20th centuries, destroyed much of the medieval fabric.
