Churches and chapels

Sunderland's extraordinary variety of significant churches ranges from the Anglo Saxon St Peter, Monkwearmouth, to the "cathedral of the Arts and Crafts Movement", St Andrew, Roker. There are also handsome non-conformist chapels. In conjunction with our project, Michael Johnson and Graham Potts produced architectural appraisals of Victorian and later churches. Graham's unpublished work on Sunderland architects has been deposited in the local studies section of the central library.See also Pevsner for County Durham.
