William Peverel

The honor of Peverel of Nottingham was a grouping of about 50 manors held from shortly after the Norman Conquest by William Peverel (d. 1114), the custodian of the royal castle at Nottingham. After the disgrace of his son, also William Peverel, in 1155 the honor came into the hands of the Crown. Thereafter the honor retained some separate administrative identity, latterly as a small debt court, until 1840.
