Tobacco pipe and pottery making

In the 17th and 18th centuries Bolsover was well known locally as a centre for the manufacture of clay tobacco pipes, and for a short time in the mid 18th century was the home of a pottery making brown eathenware of the type more commonly associated with Chesterfield, six miles to the west. The tobacco pipe industry appears to have come to an end by the 1820s.
