St Keyne's Well, St Keynes

This famous well is located near St Keyne’s Church. A legend concerning the well is mentioned in a poem by former Poet Laureate Robert Southey: "If the husband of this gifted well should drink before his wife A happy man henceforth is he For he shall be master for life". The well building is made of granite ashlar with a gabled roof, but is of little architectural interest. It was originally built in the 16th century, but rebuilt in the 1930s after the lane was widened.
