Local Authority Housing: Exmoor

The first local authority houses were built in the late 1920s. Dulverton was short of accommodation by the 1930s and railway carriages were proposed. In 1934 a scheme was drawn up to replace 55 unfit houses but only c. 40 new 3-bedroom houses were planned mainly at Battleton. After the Second World War more homes were provided by the local authority throughout the Exmoor area.
