World War I on Exmoor

Effigy of Aubrey Nigel Henry Molyneux Herbert (d. 1923) in Brushford church.

During the war Aubrey Herbert joined the Irish Guards, despite his poor sight, was wounded at Mons but escaped capture and joined military intelligence. His career was not typical of Exmoor men who joined the war many of whom did not survive.
