St Madern's Church, Madron

St Madern's (pronounced Madderne) is the mother church of Penzance. It is a large sized parish church in the Perpendicular style. It has a west tower of only two stages but the lower stage is very tall. The chancel is of an earlier date. It has also has an early 14th century south aisle and 15th century north aisle.
The church was restored in 1887, when it was refloored and reseated with carved oak benches. Some old bench ends were discovered under the floor were incorporated into the seating in the south aisle.
