Quirke's Almshouse, Minehead

Quirke's Almshouses, Minehead

In 1630 merchant Robert Quirk built 11 dwellings for the poor on waste ground east of the cross beside the market place. He gave cellars or warehouses by the quay to maintain them.

In 1980 only three houses were occupied, each one up one down with a toilet but no bath, but they were restored and modernised in 1985.
