The Ostrich

Dating back to at least 1745, the Ostrich Public House is one of the pubs which Sailors, shipyard and dock workers, merchants and others used when Bristol was a busy port. One of its walls has been partly demolished to reveal the interior of one of the many caves under . On the wall opposite is a copy of a trade card for the Ostrich Pub dated 1775 which features a young black man, probably a slave.   Today it is popular with locals and also attracts tourists and visitors. An inside wall has been removed to look into one of the Redcliffe Caves and some of the internal decoration has links to the slave trade.
