Kirby Muxloe Probate Material

Kirby Muxloe castle

Kirby Muxloe castle, now in the ownership of English Heritage, is one of the earliest brick buildings in Leicestershire. It presents the picture of a romantic ruin, surrounded by a large moat, but the reality is that it was never completed. Work ceased upon the summary execution of William, Lord Hastings in 1483, following the accession of Richard III. The brickwork bears Hastings' arms and other characters. We are fortunate that the building accounts survive.
