The Hill (east): No. 157

This 3-gabled house looks quintessentially 17th-century and retains some genuine features, such as the drip-moulds over the windows. However, what we see today is largely the result of a comprehensive 20th-century remodelling, comparable to that undertaken in several other Burford buildings.

Nothing is known of the building's earlier history, save that in the 19th century, like several nearby houses, it was apparently divided into small cottages: 4 or 5 households were recorded on or near the site, headed by labourers, glovers, joiners, laundresses, and chimney sweeps.
