Dulverton's High Street

The lower part of High Street, Dulverton in 2008

Dulverton's shops lie mainly in the lower part of High Street and in Fore Street. They have changed greatly in the last 150 years. In the mid 19th century the stores and services supplied the basic needs of local people. With the increasing importance of tourism and the motor car the general stores and hardware shops have been replaced by antique and gift shops to cater for visitors. However, Exmoor's remoteness from supermarkets and shopping malls has ensured that Dulverton still has a range of independent shops supplying groceries, clothes and books for local people as well as fancy goods for tourists.
