Dulverton yeomen

Late 17th-century Hele Bridge farmhouse, Dulverton.

This three-storey, double-pile or square house was built for a prosperous yeoman family. This house type allows for two reception rooms and a private parlour, and also attic bedrooms for servants. It is a vernacular interpretation of high-class housing of the period. and as such is unusual on Exmoor where the traditional longhouse prevailed for centuries.

As well as the small town Dulverton parish contains many large farmsteads and homesteads including Ashway, Ashwick, Broford, Combe, Highercombe, Liscombe, Old Shute, Pixton, and Tarr Steps.
