Bristol Sikh Temple

This building was acquired by Sikhs in 1978 to replace the city’s first Gudwara which had been originally 1958 at 8 St. Mark’s Road by some 15 or so Sikh families. The Fishponds Road premises were first erected some time between 1880-1900, had been used by the Bristol Ominbus Company as offices and staff accommodation until the nearby bus garage closed in 1968. Nos. 71-5 then became variously offices, shops and temporary warehousing with a bank in one part c. 1975-1977 though the gurdwara’s website states the building was used as a post office just prior to its conversion into a gurdwara.
