Somerton Methodist church

Methodists probably first met in the 1780s and in 1810 Thomas Connock was licensed to have Methodist worship in his house in West Street. By 1828 he had converted a carpenter's shop behind the house into a chapel. It was replaced, probably on the same site by this Wesleyan Methodist chapel in 1845. It was later extended to the rear to house a Sunday school.
There were other Methodist congregations in Somerton in the 19th century and a Bible Christian Chapel but this church is the only survivor.
